I just want to point out that,
«Explore is Flickr’s Daily Artist Showcase. Every day Flickr admins choose 500 of the most interesting images determined by “interestingness”.»
this is not true. There are no admins. It is a computer algorithm that calculates that interestingness based on some social behaviour that the photo receives — hence it cannot be elite or artistic.

Still, your classification of the images that would make it are quite spot on, and very true... though in recent times, other types of images can make it based on breaking down the algorithm.

Flickr, it seems, will stop this version of Explore. You can check discussions on FlickrCentral group for recent vitriol, discussions, and insults about this issue :)

At first this article just struck me as too snarky, but as I paid more attention...it's all true. I especially like the observation about titling images.

The interesting question is, if you learn how to please the crowds on flickr (amp up saturation and contrast, follow above tips), does that help you become a better photographer or simply a more popular photographer on flickr?
